I was out riding my 2018 Polaris Sportsman 500 last weekend and the winch stopped working mid-pull. I checked the battery and connections, but I'm pretty sure the relay is the culprit. I've heard relays can fail from moisture or vibration, but I'm not sure what else causes them to go bad. Anyone have experience with this? I'd like to know what to look for before I start replacing parts.

Moisture is a big one. If your relay isn't sealed well, water can get in and corrode the contacts. I had a similar issue on my Grizzly after a deep water crossing. Dried it out and it worked for a while, but eventually had to replace it.
Vibration can loosen the internal connections over time. I've seen relays fail just from years of bouncing around on rough trails. Check the mounting bracket too—sometimes it's loose and that makes it worse.
Heat is another factor. If the relay is near the engine or exhaust, it can overheat and the internal coil can short out. I'd relocate it if possible, or at least add some heat shielding.
