Hey folks, I'm looking to upgrade my ride and need some input on the fastest ATV out there. I've been on a Yamaha Grizzly 700 for a few years and love it, but I want something with more top-end speed for occasional highway runs to the trailhead. I’m okay with a bit more weight if it means higher horsepower, but I still need decent handling on rough terrain. What models would you recommend for sheer speed, and what trade‑offs should I expect? Any personal experiences would be great!

I went with a Polaris RZR XP 1000 last summer after reading a lot about its 100‑hp engine. It definitely feels faster on the open road, hitting around 70 mph, but the extra power makes it a handful on tight, technical trails. Also, the fuel consumption jumps, so you’ll be hitting the pump more often. If you can handle the power and don’t mind the heavier feel, it’s a solid speed machine.
I’d caution against chasing top speed alone. I swapped my 700 Grizzly for a Honda TRX700EX and found it quicker off‑road and still respectable on pavement (about 65 mph). The Honda’s lighter chassis and smoother power delivery give better control, especially in wet or loose conditions. You lose a few mph compared to the RZR, but you gain confidence and safety on mixed terrain.
If speed is your main goal, the Kawasaki Brute Force 750 is worth a look. It’s got a 749 cc engine that pushes past 70 mph, and the suspension is tuned for both road and trail. The downside is the maintenance cost—Kawasaki’s parts are pricier, and the bike can be a bit noisy. Also, be aware that insurance rates go up with those numbers, so factor that into your budget.
